Washington (November 11, 1889) was the 42nd State admitted to the Union. The Constitution of the State of Washington, adopted 1889, stated:
<Preamble. We, the people of the State of Washington, grateful to the Supreme Ruler of the Universe for our liberties, do ordain this Constitution.> 1889WA001
