Andrew Jackson was sent to fight the British-backed Red Stick Creek Indians at the Battle of Horseshoe Bend in 1814. One of Jackson's soldiers was the young Sam Houston, who was wounded, but kept fighting. Another soldier was Davy Crockett, who later became a Tennessee Congressman. Davy Crockett and Sam Houston helped Texas gain independence from Mexico.
