Andrew Jackson fought the British-backed Red Stick Creek Indians at the Battle of Horseshoe Bend in 1814. One of his soldiers was Sam Houston, who was wounded, but kept fighting. Another soldier, Davy Crockett, became a Tennessee Congressman. Crockett and Houston helped Texas gain independence from Mexico.
